The Zimbabwe Under 20 boys and girls handball teams are back in the country after winning bronze medals at the recent International Handball Federation Zone 6 Challenge Trophy which in Zambia. The team’s extensive preparations for the IHF Challenge Trophy did not go to waste as both teams put up outstanding performances en route to winning bronze medals at the regional handball extravaganza.
The teams were in a jubilant mood upon their arrival from Zambia, where they cemented their growing status as regional powerhouses.
Zimbabwe Under 20 men’s and women’s team coaches, heaped praise on the players for their remarkable showing against some of the best teams from the region.
The IHF Challenge Cup was held at the Orlando Community Hall in Soweto and saw six regional countries participating namely Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, Lesotho and Mozambique.
An IHF official said the teams prepared well despite limited training resources. “We didn’t match the experience of our opponents.
“Our boys and girls need to be exposed for them to perform well at the next tournament. We have to forge ahead and work on the weaknesses in our teams so that we can do better at the next competition.
“We just want to ask the Government to help us camp the team in good time to prepare adequately in future,” said the official.
