‘Hands off Manicaland executive’

political commissar Cde Webster Shamu and deputy secretary for security Cde Kembo Mohadi to investigate problems bedevilling the party in Manicaland following a petition the executive submitted to First Secretary and President Cde Mugabe to address the problems they face.

Some sections of the media quoted secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa as having said, as he gave a vote of thanks at the conclusion of the probe team’s visit, that the provincial executive stood dissolved.

Cde Mutasa’s inclusion in the probe team raised eyebrows since he was fingered to be at the centre of problems in the province and as such could not be an arbiter in his own dispute.

In a statement yesterday, the director in the Zanu-PF commissariat department, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha, said the national chairperson had made the position clear to the leadership in Manicaland.

“The current executive of the Zanu-PF Manicaland province remains in office and must continue to carry out its duties in a normal and undisturbed manner,” Cde Machacha said.
“The Zanu-PF national chairman, Cde S. K. Moyo, clarified this point in a letter to the acting chairperson of the province, Mrs (Dorothy) Mabika, today (yesterday). Cde Moyo said all members of associate affiliations are expected as usual, to support the operations of the executive without any disruption.”

Cde Machacha said the same position had been communicated to party secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa, national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu and chairperson of the War Veterans’ Association in Manicaland.

Cde Khaya Moyo’s team is expected to compile a report that would be forwarded to the Politburo for its consideration. The probe team separately met Politburo and Central Committee members, war veterans and ex-detainees at Marymount Teachers’ College on Friday and Saturday in “a no-holds-barred meeting”.
The meeting started at 10am on Friday and ended at 2am on Saturday.

The probe team has finished restructuring Bulawayo Province and is expected to soon descend on Harare Province.
Some media reports claimed that the investigation team had dissolved the Mutare executive, allegations Cde Khaya Moyo dismissed.
