the forthcoming harmonised elections, Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has said.
Speaking during the conferment of ranks to newly promoted senior officers in Harare yesterday, Comm-Gen Chihuri said violence would not be tolerated during the harmonised elections to be held by June 29.
Eighty five senior officers were last week promoted to the ranks of superintendent and senior assistant commissioner.
“The forthcoming national plebiscite requires that you exercise your duties with assertiveness, conviction and boldness without fear or favour,” Comm-Gen Chihuri said.
“His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe has clearly spelt out the national position which deplores violence.
“He has consequently directed that violence of whatever nature is unacceptable and will be dealt with decisively.”
The police chief said the force expected the newly promoted officers to deal resolutely with corruption in their roles as trial officers.
“Disciplinary cases need to be dealt with and dispersed without delay,” he said. “Definitely members who choose to soil and contaminate the reputation of the organisation have no business which lays claim on levels of competences, skills and attitudes required.”
Comm-Gen Chihuri said the momentum set by the organisation in its quest for all round excellence required professional cadres who consistently and persistently perform at the highest levels of integrity and ethical conduct.
Of the 85 promoted officers, eight were promoted to the rank of senior assistant commissioner, 21 to assistant commissioner, 24 to chief superintendent and 40 to superintendent.
President Mugabe promoted the officers in terms of the Police Act.
Among the promoted were female officers as they claim their stake at all levels in the force.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said the impact of female officers professionalism had extended to the international domain.
Meanwhile in Chinhoyi, the Officer Commanding Mashonaland West province Senior Assistant Commissioner Rangarirai Mushaurwa conferred ranks to 10 police officers who were promoted to the ranks of inspector and chief inspector.
These were Consaltar Jere, Lloyd Mumvuma, Brighton Muzadzi, Gamuchirai Makota, Vaidah Ropa, Beulah Jemwa, Maud Ngandu and Marble Ngwadzai who were promoted to the rank of inspector while Taona Nemacha and Sibonisiwe Dube were promoted to chief inspectors.
