HARARE City continued their recent good run when William Manondo and Malvin Gaki fired them to victory over Shabanie Mine in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.

The visitors were the better side in the first half but were let down by their poor conversion rate. And the Chinda Boys were duly punished as Harare City made it two wins in as many matches at Rufaro with Manondo and Gaki on target either side of the break.

The Sunshine Boys beat champions CAPS United 3-2 on their return to Rufaro last Saturday. They were then unlucky not to defeat a Highlanders side they dominated at Barbourfields last weekend.

Manondo thrust his side into the lead when he lifted the ball over a drawn-out Alois Tangwara after he intercepted his clearance in the 22nd minute. But Shabanie continued to press and were denied by the woodwork when Farai Mupasiri met a Joe Nyabinde cross in the 26th minute.

Shabanie Mine coach Takesure Chiragwi believes it’s high time they should have the confidence and start winning on the road. “I think we need to do better, the game was good in the opening minutes but only two mistakes saw us getting punished,’’ he said.

“We need to work hard and get some points because we are dropping down the log and we need to do something.

“We made blunders and I think the goalkeeper will learn from his mistakes, I rate him highly, he is young and still learning and you can imagine the impact brought by losing seven players during the window period.’’

Harare City coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube felt his team could have done better.
