The City of Harare has started rolling out prepaid water meters in Warren Park 1, a development that has been welcomed by residents.

City of Harare corporate communications manager Mr Stanley Gama confirmed the development last week adding they had also embarked on an awareness campaign on the benefits of the pre-paid water meters.

“Residents have welcomed the water meters because they understand how they work, that they will benefit from them in the sense that they will pay for what they use not using estimates,” he said.

“So, we are excited that we are launching the water meters and residents have welcomed the initiative and it’s going to improve the delivery for water.”

Mr Gama said so far, the city has taken delivery of 20 000 meters with 40 000 more expected before the end of the year.

Ward 15 Warren Park Cllr Tafadzwa Machirori said residents appreciate the noble efforts by council to install the meters which will see them paying only for water they would have consumed.
