HARARE City put their off-field woes aside to end Black Mambas’ unbeaten run in a ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League clash at Motor Action Sports Club yesterday.

As a bonus for the stunning victory, Harare City took over as leaders on goal difference.

The Sunshine Boys, who came into the game in the backdrop of boycotting training for the better part of last week, put aside their in-house battles to put up a polished performance that ended Warumwa Warumwa’s 19 match unbeaten run.

The Harare City Council-owned side managed to get their goals in either side of the half with Robson Chareka converting from the spot after Oswald Kavhumbura had handled in the box in the 33rd minutes.

As Black Mambas searched for an equaliser, in-form Stanley Masukuta punished them in the 49th minute.

Joseph “Shabba” Takaringofa was happy with the win and said they have managed to conquer a side who played well and gave credit to his players.

“I am grateful to the boys as you know we lost almost half of the team and the guys who remained behind and those who came on board have a point to prove. It was a good game and we managed to utilised the chances that we got as we had managed to contain our opponents in the first 20 minutes. The race is still on and I am now looking forward to our next game.

“The championship is still open and by having this crucial result encourage us as a team.

There is still a lot to work for and I believe if we come out of our current situation where we are having financial challenges we will get there,” said Takaringofa.

Black Mambas coach John “Toto” Ncube blamed the loss on complacency and said they are looking forward to rise up and dust themselves in their next game.

“It (defeat) was obviously going to come but the game was well balanced. We were a bit unfortunate as we committed some errors through our trusted centre halves.

“We will go back to the drawing board and see how well we come up in our next fixture which we need to win,’ said Ncube.

Northern Region Results:

Harare City 2, Black Mambas 0; ZRP Harare 1, Golden Eagles 0.
