The Harare side put up a brave performance following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of the coalminers in the capital last month.
The first eight minutes of the game saw Hwange increasing pressure on the Sunshine Boys when they made their first attempt at goal following a free kick.
In the 12th minute the Sunshine Boys turned the heat when Silas Songani passed to Godfrey Nguwodzawo but it was blocked by a defender.
Another attempt came from Crybert Muvuti after he sent a shot into the hands of the Hwange goaliePetros Mhari in the 18th minute.
In the 20th minute Talent Chawapihwa was sent off after he insulted referee Hardly Ndazi following a disputed throw-in given to Hwange. A minute later Aaron Katebe was sent off after he kicked Ronald Maketo in the stomach in retaliation after he was pulled down.
With both teams a player down, it was a battle to outdo each other. The coalminers were awarded a freekick which was however blocked by the defence. Another attempt by Hwange’s Thonisani Sibelo earned him a yellow card after he tried to control the ball with his hand before faking an injury.
The three added minutes to the first half failed to bring any change to the stalemate.
Harare City made their first change in the 57th minute when they brought in Nathan Ziwini to replace Muvuti.
In the 69th minute Francisco Zvikumbawire sneaked past the defence and released a shot which was punched by the goalminder resulting in a corner kick.
In an effort to improve their attack, Hwange pulled out Nkosana Siwela replacing him with Maqhawe Mpofu while Harare City brought in William Kupera for Songani.
The 73rd minute saw the Colliery’s wonderboy Rodwell Chinyengetere receiving a yellow card for pushing Maketo. Apparently the warning did not go down well with Winstone Mhango who had also been cautioned earlier in the match for insulting the referee resulting in a second red.
