“It is my pleasure to present to you the Draft Harare Masterplan for your adoption in respect to the backdrop of the masterplan, it identifies various activities that happen, the capacity and deficiencies and how the local authority is going to deal with them.

“There shall be public notice of the place or places at which, and the period for which, the draft master plan will be exhibited as in the daily newspaper.”

Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume, said there was still room for residents to provide input to their issues pertaining the city in regards with the masterplan.

“The masterplan is a vehicle through which the City of Harare will promote development and growth of the city as well as fostering order and dealing with city challenges, which include traffic congestion, lack of a mass public transportation system, urban sprawl, rural to urban migration, poor service provision, and rapid population growth among others,” he said

“As you know there was a call to action by the President the deadline has come the government indicated had no appetite to extend the deadline so we were supposed to come up with the Masterplan by June 30.

“We were/ are operating on an outdated masterplan so it is necessary for us to  create a masterplan that will cater for the needs of the city.”
