Harare City Council has deployed 800 research assistants to conduct a household survey as part of the ongoing master plan preparation work.
These enumerators will gather crucial data about the character and profile of neighbourhoods, as well as the challenges faced by residents and space users.
The city will also utilise online survey platforms to allow residents to provide input from anywhere, at their convenience.
Speaking during the deployment meeting for the research assistants, the principal consultant for the Harare Master Plan project, Mr Trymore Muderere stated that as part of their early master plan preparation work, they are deploying a survey instrument known as a socio-economic survey instrument.
“This is essentially an instrument designed to capture information about the character and profile of our neighbourhoods, as well as the challenges facing residents and space users, to generate empirical data that fits into the master plan process.
“Essentially, it is a tool designed to give a voice to the owners of the city – namely, the residents of Harare and the space users, including business owners – so that they can contribute to the master plan preparation process,” he said.
Mr Muderere explained that the 800 enumerators, armed with Android phones, will use a digital tool to collect empirical data.
“We are deploying a near real-time mobile data collection application, which will crowdsource all the data collected and send it directly to our analytics platforms.”
