A Harare family has alleged that it has been subjected to repeated attacks by unknown individuals who have been demanding to know the whereabouts of Delvin Kajese, in a case that has raised fears of politically motivated violence.
A relative of the family told reporters that the most recent incident left Kajese’s brother severely injured after he was allegedly assaulted by the unidentified attackers.
“The last attack was the worst,” said the relative, who requested anonymity for safety reasons. “They came at night asking where Delvin was. When Delvin’s brother said he did not know, they beat him badly and left him seriously injured.”
According to the family, the attacks have been occurring intermittently over several months, with the assailants allegedly demanding information about Kajese’s location before fleeing the scene.
The relative claimed that the family’s troubles began after Kajese became politically active with the Movement for Democratic Change later the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC).
“Most of our problems started after Delvin became active in CCC,” the relative said. “Since then, he has been targeted, especially by people we believe are Zanu-PF supporters. They keep coming to the family home looking for him.”
The family alleges that the threats and attacks intensified to the point that Kajese was forced to go into hiding, fearing for his life.
“He had no choice but to disappear from public view,” the relative added. “He was genuinely afraid that if he stayed, he would be killed.”
Police have not yet commented on the allegations, and it remains unclear whether any arrests have been made in connection with the reported attacks. Human rights activists have repeatedly raised concern over rising cases of alleged political intimidation, particularly targeting opposition activists and their families.
The family has appealed to authorities to guarantee their safety and to investigate the attacks, saying they now live in constant fear as they await justice and protection.
