HARARE City Council yesterday received a donation of 12 solar panels for Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital from Samansco as it continues to prepare for a potential outbreak of Covid-19.
Samansco Group chief executive officer Mr Nyasha Bamhare, who handed over the donation, said the gesture is meant to assist in easing power shortages at the local authority’s health facilities.
“We have realised that there are power challenges at our health institutions and we thought it necessary to donate these solar panels so that there would be a constant supply of power, especially in this period when we are struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic,” Mr Bamhare said.
“So the issue of power shortages at our health institutions motivated us to bring this small donation, which we feel will assist to overcome that challenge, and also help in the fight against this pandemic.”
He called on other corporates to come forward and assist in the fight against Covid-19. Receiving the donation, Acting Harare Mayor Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe assured Mr Bamhare that the donation would be put to good use.
“This morning we received a donation of solar panels from Samansco and this will assist us at our Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospital where we are having challenges of consistent supply of electricity. Also the increasing cost of electricity is affecting us as a city,” she said.
“The solar panels will go a long way in ensuring that the hospital has constant supply of energy especially at a time like this when we are in a crisis with Covid-19.
“As a council, we feel honoured and blessed to have corporates who take their time to donate to the city particularly during this lockdown period. We made a call asking corporates and individuals to come through and assist the city, we are one family at the end of the day and what Samansco has done is commendable.”
She made a call to corporates and individuals to emulate Samansco, and help the city in the fight against the deadly pandemic.
“We want to encourage other corporates to assist in this crisis. It is not a crisis for the City of Harare alone but a national one and it calls for assistance from all of us.”
