HARARE Province retained the Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union inter-provincial golf championship after emerging tops in this year’s edition of the championship held at Triangle Golf Club over the weekend.
The Harare ladies, made up of mainly single handicappers, were too strong once again but had some anxious moments as a result of the standard of play displayed by their Matabeleland counterparts who eventually came second while Mashonaland East/West were third.
Midlands were the plate winners followed by the president’s select while Manicaland came third.
“We are happy that all the five golf provinces attended including the president’s select. Competition was very high and the future looks bright,” said the ZLGU publicity secretary Evelyn Maisvoreva.
She said the tournament was also used to select a national team to participate in the A and B Triangular in Botswana in April and May.
“The team has not been announced but national selectors were in attendance,” said Maisvoreva.
Meanwhile, the ladies will head to Bulawayo in their next tournament which will be held at the prestigious Bulawayo Golf Club on March 8-9.
Maisvoreva said it will be a strokeplay tournament with four divisions, Championship, A, B and C Divisions.
Championship Division is made up of 0-12 handicappers, A Division is for the 13-18 handicapped players while B Division players are handicapped 19-26.
Division C players, who will be using the individual stableford format are handicapped between 27-36.
