A COUNT back rule had to be used to decide the winner of the first NetOne Classic golf tournament that was held at the country’s oldest golf course, the Bulawayo Golf Club that saw Harare’s duo of Ken Moyo and Shepherd Samson coming tops last Friday.
Moyo and Samson scored 44 points, the same number of points that were scored by four other pairs.
A count back system is determined by the day of the competition and since last Friday was the sixth, which was an even number, the organisers added the holes of the odd nine holes in the 18 hole course and the winner is the one who scored better in those holes.
Coming second on the night was Levy Makishoni and Stanley Mubvunzi while Pankas Thaker and Ravindra Rama were third.
A L Mwashita and J Lombard came fourth while former Highlanders chairman Roger Muhlwa and his partner Moses Mlalazi came fifth, also with 44 points.
Chinhoyi’s Benrard Muchabaiwa came first in the individual stableford with 41 points, followed by Constance Mashiri of Harare who scored 39 points relegating Makishoni who had 37 points.
Speaking just before the prize giving ceremony, NetOne marketing manager Ellen Muchemwa said the tournament was meant to provide a platform for the corporate executives to network in a sporting environment.
“At NetOne we only have winners and this tournament was created so that a platform is availed for you guys to network,” she said.
