Harare hosts Caf coaches’ course

yesterday said they have invited 40 prospective candidates who meet the minimum selection criteria, including the national team coaches.
The course will be conducted by Tanzanian Sunday Kayuni, while Matongorere, who is also a Caf qualified instructor, will oversee the first two days.
“As you know in December 2009 we had our first Caf Licence C course and another one in 2010. We had 34 people who made it and six failed. We have invited those who were successful in the Caf Licence C Course.
“There has been inquiries from all over with coaches interested in this B Licence course but we have stuck to principle which says only those who have successfully completed the Licence C and have been active in the last two years should be considered,” said Matongorere.
Some of the coaches expected to attend include Rahman Gumbo, David Mandigora, Norman Mapeza, Peter Ndlovu, Lloyd Mutasa, Elvis Chiweshe, Barry Dhaka, Misheck Chidzambwa, Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, Wilson Mutekede and Mighty Warriors coach Rosemary Mugadza.
Madinda Ndlovu has also been shortlisted but might not be able to come as he is focusing his energies on winning the Botswana championship title with Mochudi Centre Chiefs.
Matongorere said the coaches will also receive lectures on sports medicine, refereeing and on Olympism.
The official opening of the course will take place at Zifa Village tomorrow. The participants are expected to camp at Zifa Village from Sunday. The course includes theory and practicals, which will be held at Prince Edward school.
Meanwhile, Zifa are set to benefit equipment from the Caf development programme “Contract with Africa”, which will distribute administrative support accessories and medical equipment to all its national associations.
The equipment includes at least five laptop computers, as well as medial life emergency kit containing various key items considered essential for life support and other treats faced by professional athletes. The programme is in line with Caf’s commitment to equip the secretariat of its member associations to aid to the discharge of their duties, while providing required support in the medical field, ensuring that footballers are looked after in the best possible and efficient way.
“Caf is very committed to the programs of our members and we hope the equipment will be vital in carrying out of their administrative and medical responsibilities,” said Caf president Issa Hayatou.
