part of the Zimbabwe Culture Week that was officially launched last Saturday in Murehwa. The theme of the day is “Celebrating Our Tradition, Pride and Identity”, the same with that of the Culture Week.
One of the organisers and Future Academy centre manager, Nyengeterai Takawira, the schools and the Harare community were welcome at the commemorations. “Initially, this initiative was meant to be a small celebration for the academy but when we consulted the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe to officiate, they suggested that we make it a provincial commemoration.
The move is commendable, considering that Culture Week commemorations have been held outside Harare,” she said.
Different culture groups from many parts of the city are expected to take part and while renowned artistes Albert Nyathi and Dudu Manhenga will not only adjudicate the participants but also entertain the guests. “We are looking forward to making it an annual celebration that will become bigger and better each year. We have put in place posters around the city so we are not only expecting the invited schools but members of community,” she said.
Traditional music icons “Hwamanda” dance group and Chipawo will be among the entertainers at the celebrations. Drama as well as arts exhibitions will also take centre stage at the show that will be officiated by the NACZ directorate. Chinese culture will also be on show.
