A HARARE man, Mr Godknows Chawaipira, has been ordered to pay ZiG1 000 maintenance for his eight-year-old son.

His former partner, Ms Priviledge Tatile, appeared before the Harare Civil Court Magistrate Ms Johanna Mukwesha, accusing Chawaipira of not providing for his son.

“He last paid fees when our son was in ECD, he is now in Grade 3,” she said.

“He told me he is not getting his all his salary because he is paying for a loan which he got for a stand. He said he put it (the stand) in our son’s name but never showed me the papers.”

Ms Tatile told the court that she wants US$70 and ZiG1 000 from Mr Chawaipira to take care of their son’s needs.

However, Mr Chawaipira opposed the application and told the court that he is only getting his salary in local currency and he can afford to pay ZiG1 000.

“I took a loan to buy a stand which I put in my son’s name, so all my United States dollar salary is going there to cover the loan. I am getting my salary in ZIG only. I can afford to pay ZiG1 000 in the meantime,” said Mr Chawaipira.

He also told the court that he has a wife and three other children he is looking after.

”I have a wife and three children whom I am taking care of as well and we are already struggling to live off my current salary,” he said.

Magistrate Ms Mukwesha ordered Mr Chawaipira to pay ZiG 1 000 maintenance every month starting from July 31.
