ALL is set for the third edition of the Golden Pilsener Harare Open that tees off from November 21 to 23 at Chapman Golf Club. The tournament will be a 54-hole stroke play and has a US$25 000 purse bankrolled by Delta’s Golden Pilsener brand. At least 40 professionals, including top amateurs, will battle it out at Chapman.
The defending champion is Day Muyambo but whether he can retain the trophy he won last year remains to be seen.
Muyambo’s 71, 69 and 70 for 210 return was a shot better than the trio of Ryan Cairns, Tongo Charamba and Ignatius Mketekete who were tied for second position on a three-day return of 211.
Muyambo walked away with the winner’s purse of US$4 500 while Cairns, Charamba and Mketekete walked away with US$2 625 each for their efforts.
Cairns, who had led round one and two, struggled with his putting in the final round to finish with a disappointing one-over-par 73.
Last year, the best amateur was Ben Follet-Smith who has since moved to the United States.
There is all to fight for at Chapman as this could be the second last tournament of the season.
Zambezi Tour marketing and communications director, Tendayi Gwatiringa, said registration was still in progress and they expect a strong field.
“Entries for the event are open and will close on November 15, the field is expected to feature professionals from the Zambezi Tour and a few elite amateurs with a few invitations being extended to professionals from the region,” said Gwatiringa.
