Police are investigating a case in which a student from Harare Polytechnic is believed to have been murdered in unclear circumstances two weeks ago. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tedius Chibanda confirmed the case and identified the deceased as Joshua Kativu (23). He said Kativu went to a music show at Harare Gardens with two friends.
The trio is said to have been drinking alcohol until around 11.30pm when the deceased left his mates.

His friends thought he had decided to go to sleep but were surprised when he did not show up the following day.
Insp Chibanda said at around 1pm the following day a member of the public saw Kativu lying near the Exhibition Park and called an ambulance.

The ambulance crew said he had injuries all over his body, and took him to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
Kativu did not have identity particulars on him and was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

His relatives were looking for him and his sister identified the corpse at Parirenyetwa mortuary last Tuesday.
Earlier this month a 28-year-old man was found dead in a park near Mupedzanhamo Flea Market along Simon Mazorodze Road. Police believe the man could have been murdered.

The police are urging the public to avoid walking alone at night and to only use properly marked taxis hired from authorised ranks.
Wherever possible, police added, people should use the same taxis to avoid getting into criminals’ cars.
