Harare City Council has expressed concern over the US$1,3 million it received from Zimbabwe National Roads Administration, arguing the money was too little.
In a letter this week, Zinara advised Harare that; “This serves to notify you that your annual allocation for the year 2015 is US$1,303 590, 55. You are required to submit an annual road programme maintenance for the year 2015 . . .”
However, Harare Deputy Mayor Thomas Muzuva ,questioned how Zinara arrived at the figure without consulting.
He said this would force the city to divert funds from various departments towards road maintenance as the entire network was in poor state.
Glen Norah councillor Mr Herbet Gomba, said the amount was not even enough to patch potholes in the Central Business District.
Harare Residents Trust director Mr Precious Shumba, said it was unfortunate that Zinara was failing to disburse enough funds for the city.
Zinara board chairman Mr Albert Mugabe, said the city was supposed to be thankful on what the administration had done for them.
“We have an ambitious budget to collect about US$200 million against a national requirement that runs into billions. It’s simply impossible to satisfy anyone. For the city fathers to call our direct budgetary allocation to them ‘paltry’ portrays an unhealthy amnesia,” he said.
