Harare Municipality has started issuing monthly electronic bills, making it easier for residents to have quick access and pay their bills.
Plans are afoot to replace the old system of sending bills.
In a statement, council said over 20 000 e-bills have been sent to residents and corporates that provided their e-billing details.
Harare City council corporate communications manager Mr Michael Chideme on Wednesday encouraged more residents to register.
“Over 20 000 e-bills have been sent to residents and corporates that provided their e-billing details,” he said.
Combined Harare Residents Association’s (CHRA) director, Mrs Loreen Mupasiri welcomed the development.
“However, as residents, we encourage the council to ensure that the system is popularised because residents in most high density areas have no idea of this e-billing or how it works,” she said.
“Council should clean up its billing process to ensure that residents get correct bills and not the exorbitant estimates that have left most residents in debt.”
Harare Residents Trust, Mr Precious Shumba encouraged businesses to embrace technology.
