Harare takes on climate change with new environmental policy

The Harare City Council and the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) have partnered in the fight to combat climate change and environmental degradation.
A new Environment and Climate Policy is being developed to address pressing issues such as water scarcity, sanitation, illegal sand mining, and industrial pollution.

Harare mayor Jacob Mafume said the City of Harare in partnership with Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) is in the process of crafting an Environment and Climate policy document to address issues of the environment in the city.

Addressing a press conference on the Environment and Climate Policy formulation at Town House, Mayor Mafume said the council was planning to implement far-reaching measures to combat the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.

“The Environment and Climate policy is aimed at addressing water and sanitation, illegal sand poaching and wetlands destructions, stream cultivation, and minimise industrial emissions,” he said.
