A 35-year-old Harare woman has appeared in court facing three counts of human trafficking after she was allegedly found in control of three children suspected to have been trafficked from South Africa.

Yemurai Gandari was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Jessie Kufa.

The State alleges that on May 16, police received information that Gandari had trafficked three children from South Africa into Zimbabwe. Acting on the tip-off, detectives arrested her while she was in the company of the three children.

According to the allegations, two of the children are South Africans aged eight months and are at the breastfeeding stage. The third child, a Zimbabwean aged four, was allegedly supposed to be attending school.

Prosecutors allege that Gandari failed to produce identification documents for the children when asked by police.

The court heard that she entered Zimbabwe with the children on May 5 this year.
