On Sunday evening, she was honoured with the title of “Outstanding Professional Female Boxer” during the Annual National Sports Awards (Ansa), which were held in Harare. “It feels good and exciting to have won this award. It’s really amazing. I’ve been putting in a lot of work in training and also in the ring. This award is a testament to the determination I have for boxing and I am really grateful to have been honoured with this prestigious recognition.

“I want to thank my family, my fans, and, importantly, my team at McAusland Boxing Management for helping me get this far. I also extend my gratitude to Maculwamahle Nkomo for making this happen. I am eternally grateful to everyone who has played a part in my career, shaping me into the boxer I am today,” said Mkandla after her recognition.

She added: “I hope and pray that I get a better title shot this year.”

The boxing categories were new additions, coming against the backdrop of the arrival of the Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board as a partner in the awards.

Boxing categories at the ceremony were selected by a separate committee, which included Stalin Mau Mau, Patrick Mukondiwa, and renowned boxing reporter, Gilbert Munetsi.

Lindsay Earle was named Professional Boxing and Wrestling Promoter of the Year, while Hassan Milanzi scooped the Outstanding Professional Male Boxer accolade.

The future is undoubtedly bright for powerhouse Mkandla, as she continues to defy expectations and use her platform to create a lasting legacy.
