Hardrock acquitted, promotion beckons

HARDROCK’S march to the Premiership has been given new life after the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League disciplinary committee cleared them of using a fraudulently registered player.

The Kwekwe based side had been accused of fielding Tanyaradzwa Godfrey Tsiga in their 3-0 win over ZRP Gwanda in August, despite allegations that the player also featured for Dulibadzimu United under a different name, Ephany Gwawawa.

After weeks of speculation, the independent disciplinary committee dismissed the case, finding both the club and player not guilty.

“After thorough consideration of evidence presented, the independent Disciplinary Committee has rendered the following decision; Hardrock FC and Godfrey Tanyaradzwa Tsiga were accordingly found not guilty of bringing the game of football into disrepute,” read a statement from the Central Region executive.

“Consequently, both the club and the player have been acquitted of the charges brought against them. The CRSL reaffirms its unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of discipline and protecting the integrity of the beautiful game. This decision underscores the Committee’s dedication to ensuring that all matters are adjudicated in a fair and transparent manner, in accordance with the league’s rules and regulations.”

The verdict brings closure to one of the most divisive episodes in the league, which had threatened to destabilize the Central Region title race.

Hardrock’s promotion rivals, Sheasham, had briefly withdrawn from the competition earlier this season, alleging favouritism and an uneven playing field. They only reversed that decision after intervention from the ZIFA national executive.

Now, with the controversy settled, Hardrock can finally focus on sealing their long-awaited promotion. The Kasongo Boys top the table with 82 points, four clear of second placed Sheasham, and need just one win from their remaining two matches to secure a ticket to the Premier Soccer League.

They host Midlands State University next before closing their campaign away to Dulibadzimu United in Beitbridge. Sheasham, meanwhile, face Dinson Mvuma at Bata Stadium before a tough finale against Shabanie Mine in Zvishavane.
