CASTLE Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) title-chasing side Hardrock Football Club yesterday joined the nation as they traded their boots for brooms taking part in the national clean-up campaign around the Kwekwe central business district.

The club’s array of stars, including its international players, led from the front for an hour, with club captain Martin Mapisa and club chief executive officer Tatenda Alimenda leading the exercise.

The players swept streets and picked up litter in the central business district, drawing applause from residents and vendors.

Kwekwe City Council health official Iden Nhau hailed the club for heeding the Presidential call.
“This is an eye-opener and a first of its kind to see celebrated football stars and foreign stars heading the Presidential national clean up campaign,” said Nhau.

“The national clean up is about encouraging people to clean their surrounding environment. People go to Chahwanda Stadium or watch these players on television, now seeing them cleaning the streets encourages the communities to take part in the campaign and clean their work places and surrounding environment to achieve a clean environment in Kwekwe,” he said.
