HARDROCK coach, Calvin Maphosa, says Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Sheasham was a “wake up call”, but insists the fight is far from over.
The loss marked Hardrock’s first stumble of the Central Region Soccer League season, ending a six game unbeaten run that had seen them keep six clean sheets.
Ahead of the top of the table showdown, the ambitious Kwekwe side had built a reputation on a watertight defence. But at Bata Stadium, they were jolted back to reality.
Nicknamed the Kasongo Boys, Hardrock struck first through Johannes Sibanda, only to unravel as Sheasham launched a commanding response.
Veteran defender William Stima, forward Nicolle Mutatiwa, and Gabriel Rugoho were all on target for the construction boys, sealing the win for Prince Matore’s in-form side.
The result puts Sheasham three points clear at the top on 19, with Hardrock now second.
Maphosa, though, is refusing to panic.
“To us, that is a wake up call, looking at where we are coming from,” he said.
“This is the seventh game of the season. We have the confidence and we are going to pick ourselves up.
“They won, yes, but it doesn’t mean they are the champions. This is only the beginning.”
