Hardshots clinch handball inter-club champs title

tournament, which was initially set to cater for both men and women’s clubs, featured only men’s teams due to a poor turnout in the women’s category. The men’s section saw Hardshots battling it out against JZ Moyo of Gwanda and Black Rhinos in Pool A while TS Alliance clashed with Bright Stars and Chipadze Hawks in Pool B.

The top two in each group proceeded to the semi-finals and Hardshots beat Black Rhinos 15-10 in the first semi while TS Alliance defeated   JZ Moyo 10-7 in the other.

Hardshots went on to beat TS Alliance 26-20 to win the title and for their efforts they got US$300, a floating trophy and a kit while the runners-up got US$200. ZHF president, Amon Madzvamuse, said they were happy with the standard of play displayed by the teams.

“We have seen the highest level of competition. We did not just want the numbers to come and participate so we had to put measures which resulted in some teams failing to participate because we were saying we want real clubs to play.

“When we defined the word club it was exonerating all schools and dubious clubs. Schools and amateurs could not play because we wanted to see clubs playing and to us it’s a true reflection of clubs that we have in Zimbabwe,” said Madzvamuse.

Madzvamuse said after the inter-club championships they are going to launch a Northern Region league that will be made up of teams from Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland West.

“We have to select an Under-21 team for Congo Brazzaville and we must hold that tournament. In Bindura, there were only two teams — Chipadze Hawks and BEC from Harare.
