Hardware worker commits suicide over cement

A 21-year-old worker from Cover Hardware Shop in Esigodini reportedly committed suicide by hanging when he failed to account for the company’s 81 bags of cement that went missing while he was on duty.The incident occurred on Sunday night. Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said Wellington Sibanda who stayed at the workers’ cottages is believed to have committed suicide over the missing bags of cement, which he failed to account for.

“On 8 September about 3pm, the manager of Cover Hardware, Christancia Nungu (29) summoned Sibanda and asked him to account for 81 bags of cement, which were missing. Sibanda failed to account for them,” said Insp Ndebele.

He said on the same day at about 8.30pm, Sibanda retired to bed but was found hanging   from the roof in his room by his workmate, Vivian Ncube, the following day.
