called on Government to ensure all laws reinforce the empowerment drive.
Minister Kasukuwere said this while addressing officers attending Joint Command and Staff Course (Number 25) at the Zimbabwe Staff College yesterday.
“There is need for Government to revisit other pieces of legislation and ensure that the provisions reinforce the implementation of the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act.
“Government has always and will continue to consult stakeholders from the public and private sectors as well as civil society on how best to implement the programme.
“However, it will not give in to pressure from those stakeholders, who wish to derail the implementation of the programme,” he said.
Minister Kasukuwere urged other ministries and Government departments to mainstream the indigenisation agenda in their policies. Multinational financial institutions have resisted the indigenisation programme taking advantage of loopholes in the law with Finance Minister Tendai Biti also supporting them.
Minister Kasukuwere dispelled notions that investors from countries with friendly relations with Zimbabwe will be exempted from disposing majority shareholding to locals saying his ministry will implement the law without favour.
The minister told the officers that Zimbabwe had embarked on the empowerment programme to correct historical injustices.
