EASTERN Region Division One teams Masvingo United and Hartley Academy will have until this weekend to pay up their dues for them to partake in the 2016 season or else face expulsion from the league. Zifa Eastern Region secretary Simba Wisdom confirmed the development.“We have given Masvingo United and Hartley Academy until this weekend to pay up their dues or else face expulsion from the Eastern Region Division One League.
“Hartley pledged to fulfil their pledge anytime this week but we are no longer sure whether they will be able to do so in time for the weekend deadline.
“Masvingo United have been making promises that they have not fulfilling hence we have also decided to give them until this weekend,” said Wisdom.
Masvingo United were initially provisionally suspended for two years from taking part in the Eastern Region Division One league for taking football matter to court.
Masvingo United successfully sought a court interdict to stop the coronation of Mutare City Rovers as the 2015 Eastern Region Division One champions early this year although their heads of arguments were not convincing judging by the documents that were made available to this newspaper when the team went to court.
And in a bid to set the right precedent on football regulations, the Zifa Eastern Region suspended Masvingo United pending congress decision but the region later gave conditions for Masvingo United to be accepted back in the league.
Some of the conditions included paying up the reminder of last season’s affiliation fees, this season’s player registrations fees as well as this season’s affiliation fees.
The Zifa Eastern Region gets into its third round of fixtures for the 2016 season with FC Mutoko on top of the table after winning both their two rounds of league matches with a identical 2-0 scoreline.
FC Mutoko beat Mupandawana 2-0 away before dismissing Chibi by the same margin at home during the weekend.
Mutare army outfit, Buffaloes, who are entertaining chances of making a quick return to the top flight league, opened their account with an otherwise impressive two all draw away against title contenders Masvingo City Dortmund.
The Ndega Matsika coached team then went on to collect maximum points against Renco Mine, thanks to a 2-0 triumph at Sakubva stadium over the weekend.
