Hartzell alumni raises US$500k

gesture and give back to their former schools.
DPM Mutambara is a former pupil at the school.
“Our target was to raise US$2 million, but on the night we managed to raise US$506 658.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to all the people and corporates who attended the dinner,” he said.
DPM Mutambara said it was important for Zimbabweans to develop their institutions.
“Zimbabwean schools and hospitals must be preserved. If you go to Goromonzi, Gokomere, Kutama you will realise that their infrastructure is in dire need of attention.
“What we are saying is that it is incumbent on those who were produced by these institutions to lead by example and give back to their institutions.
“The problem we have in Africa and in Zimbabwe is that we do not have a culture of alumni and philanthropy that is why we hope others will follow the example we have set at Old Mutare Mission,” he said.
Old Mutare Mission has produced a number of eminent persons in Zimbabwe. The funds raised by DPM Mutambara initiatives will go towards renovating classrooms, dining hall, dormitories and investment in information technology systems among others.
DPM Mutambara initiative follows a similar move to raise money towards the renovating of infrastructure at the University of Zimbabwe.
The UZ initiative seeks to raise US$25 million and a number of corporate organisations have since adopted various faculties at the institution.
