‘He gets violent when he has new lover’

A Ruwa woman says her husband becomes violent each time he has a new girlfriend.

Clara Mahombe told the Harare Civil Court court that her husband, Kennedy Mahombe, is in the habit of assaulting her whenever he has a new lover.

“We have been married for eight years, but he gets violent when he has a new girlfriend. Last year in August when he had a new girlfriend he assaulted me and l lost a tooth and now I can’t smile.

“He is even neglecting our children. He told me that he wants to come back home, but I told him that l had to get a protection order first,” she said.

Clara said Kennedy is staying with his new lover and occasionally comes home to sleep only.

Kennedy denied the allegations and told the court that he had never assaulted her, but they fought, and she is the one who provoked him every time.

“She lost her tooth when we were fighting, throwing cow dung at each other.

“I wanted to take the cows for ploughing after she refused to help me, and she started accusing me of going to plough at my girlfriend’s field,” he said.

Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted the protection order and advised the two to stop fighting in front of their kids.
