THE government has confirmed that the first group of people will write their vernacular provisional driving licence exams next month.
Speaking during a road safety Indaba last week, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Felix Mhona, said people will be able to write the provisional licence exams in Shona and Ndebele.
“In February they will start questioning in Shona and Ndebele and you choose what you want.
“The Highway Code translation is being done with the help of Midlands State University and the process is to be extended to all local languages in Zimbabwe so that every person will choose what he or she is comfortable with,” he said.
“Having the Highway Code only in English made it difficult for those who prefer indigenous languages.
“Sample copies in the two languages were printed, presented to Cabinet and subsequently launched officially,” he said.
