A HARARE woman pleaded with the court to review upwards her maintenance order citing the prevailing cost of living and school fees.
Patience Musiiwa said this after pleading with the court for an upward variation application from $45 000 to $70 000.
She told the court that her ex-husband, Tichaona Chikoto, doesn’t want to take care of their 15-year-old child since school fees went up.
“He can afford to pay the amount l have claimed, but he has just decided to neglect his child just to fix me.
“Our child needs a phone, data and transport money. May the court consider all the expenses l have borne alone.
“He has never contributed anything. If possible can he be ordered to pay 50 percent of the fees and l take care of the rest,” she said.
Tichaona told the court that he was unable to pay anything above $45 000 because of his income.
“If I had a salary increase, l will surely come on my own and apply for an upward variation, but as of now, l can’t afford.
“She sent our child to an expensive school which we never agreed on and now she is nagging me to pay what l can’t afford,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Tichaona to pay $70 000 per month.
