HE IS STILL THE BEST

JOHANNESBURG. AmaZulu defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has made a somewhat shocking statement about under-fire Kaizer Chiefs attacker Khama Billiat.

Billiat is yet to reproduce the form that made him a household name at Mamelodi Sundowns and Ajax.

He has been repeatedly criticised for his performances of late. However, Mphahlele, who played with him at both Sundowns and Chiefs, strongly believes no PSL player comes close to Billiat, even on his worst day.

“For me, without fear of anything, he is still the best player in the PSL,” Mphahlele told the media. “Like, show me the player that is like him? For me, you know how it goes.

“You play five or four games without scoring a goal; people start throwing negative words. For me, Khama is still the best in the PSL.”

Billiat joined Amakhosi in 2018 from their arch-rivals Sundowns, with a huge reputation. He has played over 120 games for the Soweto giants, scoring 24 goals and 28 assists.

This season he has only made nine appearances in all competitions, and he has yet to score a goal with one assist.

Unfortunately, in these four years at Naturena, they have failed to win a trophy. In between, Billiat has struggled with injuries that have affected his performance, especially in the last two years.

There have been a lot of concerns about his form, with some supporters feeling he has reached his time and no longer adding value at Naturena.

Mphahlele is expected to be vital in stopping Chiefs’ attack on Sunday in the MTN8 semi-finals at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The defender says his former side is capable of producing big performances when it matters most. With their target man Caleb Beminyamana not available, Mphahlele says they will still cause serious threats.

“They have good players; you have Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly and Kgaogelo Sekgota. Whether Caleb is there or not, they have the personnel to hurt anyone on the day.” – FARPost
