A HEAD count of the police force in Bulawayo is expected to start today ending on Tuesday.
Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Abednico Ncube could not comment on the matter and referred all questions to the national spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba.
Snr Asst Comm Charamba could not immediately comment on the matter.
However, several members of the police force in Bulawayo told The Chronicle that they had been informed that they should report for the headcount.
“We were told that every police officer must be physically present and be in possession of the following documents: national identity card and police identity card,” said a source.
Officers are also supposed to present their current payslips as evidence of being on government’s pay roll.
Only payslips for September, October or November 2015 will be accepted.
“In the event of failure to locate either of these, we were told one may produce the December salary slip,” added another police officer.
Police officers are also supposed to show the period they have served in the service together with their academic certificates.
“Those with post A’Level educational qualifications were told to produce certified copy of the certificates,” a source said.
Station commanders were allegedly expected to ensure that their stations are ready for the exercise.
The government is undertaking a head count of its employees to rationalise the civil service wage bill.
This is part of a raft of measures to reduce government’s wage bill which gobbles most of the state’s funds.
