His actions prejudiced the pupils who have failed to sit for the examinations which started last month.
Nicholas Chinyadza of Katawa Secondary School in Raffingora collected the money that was supposed to be banked in a CBZ account and converted it to his own use.
He was also supposed to register the paid up pupils so that they could get candidate numbers to sit for the exams.
The fraud was discovered after parents made enquiries on why their children had not received confirmation slips that they had registered for the exams. Chinyadza told the parents that Zimsec could not register the pupils because they were too few and advised them to wait for the examinations body to reimburse them.
But the curious parents went to Zimsec to seek clarification where they discovered the fraud and reported the case to police.
Chinyadza was arrested in Mutare after he abandoned the school on realising he had been reported to police.
He appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Mr Singandu Jele yesterday and was convicted on his own plea of guilty.
He was remanded in custody to November 29 for sentence.
Chinyadza told the court he stole the money for his family’s upkeep.
