Action Institute for Environment, Health and Development Communication (IEHDC) in partnership with South Africa-based Soul City Institute, will premiere a 13-episode television talk show on ZBCtv beginning August.The television talk show, whose primary target audience is young people between the ages of 15 and 24, is aimed at raising awareness on sexual and reproductive health and rights.
By launching the talk show which will be the first of its kind in Zimbabwe, Action IEHDC hopes to promote social and behaviour change through interrogating matters around delaying sexual debut, parent-child communication as well as sexual and reproductive health service provision.
A statement issued by Action IEHDC — a Zimbabwe-based non-governmental organisation, said the edutainment show would lead to discussions and debate on condom use, common myths and misconceptions, availability and their affordability.
“The issue of policy forbidding the mentioning of condoms in schools as a preventive measure for pregnancies and STI infections, despite the ever soaring number of drop-outs among pupils due to pregnancy, will be tackled on the talk shows.
“The discussions will encourage young people to raise and discuss issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), challenge levels of knowledge and promote discussion among their peers,” read part of the statement.
If further stated that Wize up television talk show would seek to achieve Millennium Development Goal 6, to “combat HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases”.
