BULAWAYO joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Music Day with music lovers witnessing dazzling performances from various local artistes over the weekend.As part of the celebrations, Alliance Française de Bulawayo organised an open air concert at Bulawayo Centre on Saturday to encourage major music institutions and musicians to come together and perform outside their usual shows and venues.
Opening the commemorations was DeepSoul, a house music DJ who warmed up the stage well, followed by Oneness from Technical College Suburbs which performed a variety of songs. Founders High School choir later took to the stage and gave a magnificent a cappella piece.
Other groups which performed included Acacia and the Tribe, 2Dope and Alena, Thandy Dhlana, Simunye Simunye, Stango, AfroFresh Jazz Band, The Breeze and HardRoom.
The closing act, Rainbow Blaze, did not disappoint as they put up an exhilarating showcase of talent and creativity.
The marimba group showcased the true definition of marimba music by cleverly doing renditions, mixing the marimba with songs by the late Lucky Dube including Don’t Cry and I Am a Prisoner.
Their well co-ordinated instrumentation, powerful vocals and beautifully choreographed dances characterised the day as the groups commemorated World Music Day.
Alliance Française de Bulawayo director Marie-Hélène Prédhom expressed her gratitude to all fans who attended the show saying it was a success.
“The event was a success with about 350 people at its peak moments. Most probably almost a thousand people came through during the whole afternoon,” she said.
