Healthcare funders body reinstates Omnipath Medical Laboratories

OMNIPATH Medical Laboratories has been reinstated as a member of the Association of Healthcare Funders of Zimbabwe following the reversal of its indefinite suspension pending investigations.

The initial suspension came after AHFoZ accused Omnipath of operating an unauthorised sample collection site from a parked vehicle within the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ casualty area.

The alleged setup was reportedly linked to kickbacks involving hospital staff.

This new development has been confirmed by a letter dated November 21, 2025, written by AHFoZ to Omnipath.

“Following a comprehensive review of the concerns raised, the Association of Healthcare Funders of Zimbabwe (AHFOZ) provides the following formal position.

“After internal reassessment of the procedural issues highlighted, AHFoZ has resolved to rescind the suspension of Omnipath Medical Laboratories AHFoZ registration numbers with immediate effect. This decision is made to ensure compliance with procedural fairness, administrative justice requirements, and sectoral governance standards,” it reads.

Omnipath’s lawyer, Mr Talent Zungura of Gutu and Chikowero Attorneys-At-Law, also confirmed to The Herald yesterday that the suspension has been revoked.

He explained that the suspension notice, issued on November 17, 2025, was procedurally flawed and infringed upon his clients’ constitutional rights.

“I can confirm that on the 17th of November 2025, my clients, Dr W Mbiri and Omnipath Medical Laboratories, were served with a purported notice of immediate suspension of their membership with AHFoZ,” said Mr Zungura.

Upon reviewing the notice, it was observed  that the decision was riddled with procedural irregularities.

Mr Zungura argued that Omnipath had not been afforded its constitutional right to a fair hearing.

“In essence, our clients were suspended without being notified of any alleged misconduct or given an opportunity to respond. No charges were formally laid against them, making the suspension both unlawful and invalid,” he added.

Following engagements with AHFoZ, Omnipath submitted a letter on November 19, 2025, requesting the suspension notice to be revoked.

AHFoZ subsequently conceded and lifted the suspension.
