The Heart Women’s Soccer League player of the season will pocket US$3500 from the league’s principal sponsor, Prophet Walter Magaya.
The award, which is above the regional tournaments mark, is meant to empower the girl child, fight drug and substance abuse as well as attract players from the region. Magaya disclosed this on Saturday when he handed over soccer kits to 16 teams led by the league’s head, Theresa Maguraushe.
Each team received two match kits, two training kits and substitution board.
“I have a love for football, it brings unity and heals the mind,” he said.
“May aim is to make the players happier than the club that is why I am awarding players, who will put in their effort.
“If the player is happy, she will bring the entertainment we want in sport.
“We do not want our youths to abuse drugs and substances.
“My wish is to see female soccer players coming to join local clubs because we pay and bring competition,” he added.
He reiterated the need for brand equity urging clubs to avoid tarnishing the image of the league so as to attract more sponsors.
“As the league, let us attract more sponsors by protecting our image by doing good.
“Transparency, accountability, and maintaining our integrity as clubs and personal image will take us far. Detractors will continue to be posting bad news about us but let us remain steadfast.
“We appeal to the media to promote our sports as well as the nation by reporting positively and responsibly.
“Our mission is to promote sport and I have been doing some years ago when I was behind Gunners Football Club and it lifted the league trophy,” said Prophet Magaya dismissing allegations of campaigning for ZIFA presidency.
