A 24-year-old man is appealing for assistance to help him undergo a Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR) operation in India, this comes after he was diagnosed with a heart failure.
Mr Dumisani Ngulube is currently admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital and is supposed to undergo an operation soon. He was admitted on 16 December after he was diagnosed of infective endocarditis, a heart problem.
MrNgulube’s uncle, Mr Mehluli Masuku, said they do not have enough money to send him to India for an operation.
A medical report from Dr T Moyo from Mpilo reads: “We had an echocardiogram done that showed that the patient has a severely dilated left ventricle with preserved systolic function and severe mitral regurgitation due to fail anterior leaflet, ruptured chordate vegetations are visible. Also mild pulmonary hypertension and mildly dilated right heart with mild tricuspid regurgitation were noted. Uncontrolled new aerial fibrillation was also noted.
“The patient needs urgent MVR. Blood cultures were done and showed no growth but patient has also received 14 days of Ceftriaxone and Gentamycin.Currently the patient is receiving some medication, please kindly assist.
“I am asking the public to please help us so that our boy lives to see the next day. The money needed is as follows; surgery $5 500, tissue valve ranges from $1 500 to $2 200 and the estimated evaluation is $500 to $800. Ngulube is supposed to stay near the hospital for follow up. He will be an outpatient and he is supposed to stay for three weeks so the amount needed is $840 since he will be paying $40 each day.
