BULAWAYO will reaffirm its status as the country’s entertainment capital when South Africa-based Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa and his trailblazing Kalawa Jazmee crew come to the City of Kings for their annual festive shows. Momentum is building ahead of massive show which will be preceded by Oskido’s All White bash on Christmas day at Stop Over Bar.

Known for continually unearthing innovative talent, Kalawa Jazmee stable will on 27 December hold a Home Coming Party at Queens Cricket Ground.

The bandwagon will bring Mkhululi “Heavy K” Siqula and Busiswa Gqulu along with about 10 other prominent artistes from the famed group.

Each time one digs into the sea of talent found in the South African house music scene, Kalawa inevitably comes up as one of the top entertainers in the genre.

It is no secret that Kalawa is undoubtedly the holy grail of house music, housing artistes such as Uhuru, Berita, Oskido, Mafikizolo and Dr Malinga.

Aged 21, Heavy-K’s music career began when he was 16 as a member of the Port Elizabeth outfit, Point-5, famous for producing Professor’s hit song Lento.

After going solo, he released the famous, The Gun Song (I’sbhamu), which was featured on Mahoota’s Dinaledi album and followed it with his own album titled Drumboss.

Heavy K collaborated with a number of artistes on different hit songs such as Nje, Wena (Katsho ubaba), Amaheavyweights and Teka.
For someone who’s churning out hits at an alarming rate, it’s almost hard to believe that Heavy’s eyes were firmly set on being a doctor or scientist before he fell in love with music.

Well, what science lost, music has gained. Meanwhile, another Kalawa member, Busiswa is a sensational singer whose powerful vocal range and exciting lyrical arrangement have made her a party favourite in all corners of the land.

She is the vocalist on DJ Zinhle’s famous house hit, My Name Is and is expected to showcase her vocal prowess at the Home Coming gig.
Busiswa is also a poet and used to be part of all women poetry collective, Basadzi Voices, before joining  Kalawa.

Show coordinator Vusimuzi Siqalaba said the Kalawa Jamzee crew is expected in the country on the morning of 27 December. “Oskido will be in the country on 25 but the other guys will be arriving two days later and will go straight into action. The show will begin in the afternoon and will run until the next day,” he said.

On Heavy K and Busiswa, Siqalaba said fans should expect good performances from the two as they are on top of their game at the moment.

“Oskido is bringing a team ready to stamp its mark. Busiswa and Heavy K are big artistes who are capable of giving good performances. Fans should look forward to their acts. This will be the biggest party in town and we are anticipating a big turnout as well as a big party.

This is an event meant to celebrate life with family and friends that will be back home from the Diaspora and will be in the country for the festive holiday. All are invited, come with your friend and celebrate in style with Kalawa,” he said.

A total of 12 artistes from Kalawa stable will perform at the gig and these include the house maestro himself Oskido, Doctor Malinga, Professor, DJ Zinhle, Berita, Tony Digital, Uhuru, Candy and Pepsi.
