SOME villagers in Ward 20 of Chipinge District were left counting their losses after heavy rains that pounded the area destroyed roof tops and property.

Chipinge Rural District Council Ward 20 councillor, Councillor Charles Mugidho, said villagers in Mutorwa Village in Musikavanhu Constituency suffered losses following the heavy rains which fell yesterday afternoon.

He said they were still assessing the extent of the damage and compiling a list of the affected people.

“I can confirm that villagers had their property destroyed after heavy rains fell yesterday. Major damages were recorded in Mutorwa Village in Ward 20 and the surrounding areas. A paprika warehouse and buildings housing local business people’s wares was also not spared,” he said.

Councillor Mugidho said they have warned the local communities of the possibility of a storm.

He said: “We are urging villagers to be highly alert and encouraging them to carry out any repairs that may be required on their structures before more rains come.”
