Hectic schedule beckons for showbiz stalwarts

AUGUST has started with high-profile events that are set to dominate the month.

Locally, revellers will be spoilt for choice as showbiz gurus are ready to usher them into the weekend in style.

The same applies to Zimbabweans in the Diaspora, who regularly host their kith and kin each week. Below are some of the major highlights for this weekend:

Machesomania grips Zimbabwe

All the attention is on sungura ace Alick Macheso who launches his 13th album “Kupa Kuturika” at Alexandra Sports Club in Harare this evening.

After all the hype, the stage has been set for “Baba Shero” to cement his dominance as a superstar and father figure in showbiz.

He will be supported by rap sensation Saintfloew, Andy Muridzo, Feli Nandi, Enzo Ishall and the Chillspot Family led by popular hype-man, DJ Fantan.

His sons, Esau and Tatenda, who lead Cheso Boys, are part of the line-up.

The show starts at 9pm and ends at 4am tomorrow.

ZimPraise dominance unparalleled 

Interdenominational choir ZimPraise returns to the United Kingdom for this year’s “AfriPraise Festival” scheduled for Birmingham tomorrow at the Utilita Arena.

A celebration of faith, unity and cultural pride, local acts led by Everton Mlalazi, Janet Manyowa, Kuda Mutsvene, Nyasha Mutonhori and Tembelami will share the stage with other regional acts.

These include Mercy Chinwo from Nigeria, Ntokozo Mbambo (South Africa), Annatoria (Zimbabwe-UK), Limo Blaze (Nigeria-UK) and Jabu Hlongwane (South Africa).

Comedian Nigel “Slick Pastor” Maritinyu and radio personality Becky K will facilitate the event.

Baba Harare’s Big Sunday Service

Born again musician, Braveman “Baba Harare” Chizvino, will launch his gospel album titled “Repentance” on Sunday at 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare.

The launch, which is set to culminate into a night of praise and worship, features a star-studded line-up of gospel musicians.

These include Minister Michael Mahendere, Takesure Zamar, Jonah Chivasa, Tatenda Mahachi and Sabastian Magacha.

Theatre galore on cards

Theatre lovers are in for a real treat as Harare’s Theatre in the Park opens a week-long ritualist play titled “Song Unburied” beginning tonight.

Running till August 9, the play was written by Panashe Chigumadzi.

Revered theatre practitioner, Daves Guzha, produced and directed the play.

The cast comprises Charmaine Munjeri, Dalma Chiwereva and former television personality ?Tinevimbo Chimbetete.

Mbira player and talent scout, Jacob Mafuleni, is also part of the cast, set to reignite debate on the return of stolen artefacts by foreigners.

Mighty Women’s Night of Worship

Faith Christian College in Bulawayo  will tonight host an all-female show dubbed “Night of Worship”.

A brainchild of Pastor Hetisani Mharidzo, the event will feature an array of female worshippers.

These include Mai Mwamuka, Mai Mudenda, Dr Precious K, Minister Lindani, Natasha Blessed, Bridget Mutandwa, Mai Kwaramba, and Tendai Sadzauchi among others.

Pastor Mharidzo said the event was meant to bring together female gospel artistes who don’t have exposure.

“We are a movement of female gospel musicians who are ready to change the world using music.

“By coming to Bulawayo, we want to set the tone and inspire other female gospel artistes to join the movement.

“We are ready to campaign countrywide and give exposure to others,” she said.

Kadoma embraces Zim Hip Hop movement

As the Zim Hip Hop movement gathers momentum, Kadoma is among the small towns that have found the wave irresistible. Tomorrow, the mining town hosts rising musicians, among them Michael Magz, Sorah TMB of the “Parikuda Munhu” fame, “Gore” hit-maker Mr Attentions as well as Kadoma natives hungry to make their mark in the genre.

The group of rappers from Kadoma includes Lil Shark, TK Dreezy, EMFO, Lil Smoke, JD, Flames, EFO, Tapsboi, Paytan and Semi Six.

Dubbed “Winter Shutdown Show”, the show to be held at Kenosha Pool, is being organised by Harare-based videographer, Blessed Kubvoruno , also known as Bleswyn Kays, who hails from Kadoma, along with Nastro, also from the mining town. “We are all set to host one of the major hip-hop events in Kadoma, the Winter Shutdown Show,” said Bleswyn Kays

Agga keeps Headmaster’s legacy alive

Jazz crooner Agga Nyabinde is simply unstoppable.

The youthful singer serenades jazz fans at the Old Rock Pub located at No.47 Ridgeway North in Borrowdale, Harare.

He has been holding a series of shows in and outside Harare to keep his late father Bob “Headmaster” Nyabinde’s legacy alive.
