PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has this morning pledged US$300 000 towards bonuses for the Warriors ahead of the team’s clashes with Benin (today) and Nigeria on Tuesday.
The Government of Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to national football by extending significant financial support to the Zimbabwe senior men’s national team, the Warriors, ahead of their crucial Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
In recognition of the team’s efforts and as a gesture of encouragement, President Mnangagwa, has offered a winning bonus of US$150 000 to the players, technical team and support staff, for each victory in their upcoming matches against Benin on March 20 and Nigeria on March 25.
Last year the Government announced a US$1 million sponsorship for the Warriors’ participation in the Afcon finals due to be hosted by Morocco in December.
“This means that, over and above the US$1million set aside by Government for the Caf Africa Cup of Nations Finals, the Warriors stand to earn an extra US$300 000, should they secure wins in both fixtures,” read the statement from Zifa Media.
The sponsorship underscores the Government’s unwavering commitment to the growth and success of football in Zimbabwe and the aspirations of the Warriors.
Zimbabwe face Benin in a must-win encounter this evening.
The game is in Durban, South Africa and the team needs maximum points against the koing Group C leaders.
Benin, Rwanda and South Africa are tied on seven points while Zimbabwe who anchor the group are on two.
Zimbabweans have been urged to rally behind the team, as they carry the Nation’s hopes and pride onto the field.
