THE annual Hellenic School Five-A-side soccer tournament is expected to get underway this afternoon with 13 teams taking part.
The day/night event, which is now in its fifth year, is sponsored by Hyundai who have pledged to support the growth of sport from grassroots.
Hartmann House are the defending champions.
However, hosts Hellenic feel they have a good team this year and better chances of doing well.
Hellenic coach Ray Funani says his boys want to play in the final.
“We have a stronger side this year and so we have an opportunity of doing well. We have been doing well in the schools league,” said Funani.
“We have played seven games, won four, drew two and lost one.
“Our captain Raphael Koudounaris will be leading the strike-force and he has scored 10 goals in seven matches. Simon Le vieux will be in charge of the midfield.”
The other the teams taking part are Alex Park, Borrowdale, Gateway, Emerald Hill, Zengeza, Hartmann House, Heritage , Lusitania, St Johns and Westridge.
“The competition over the years has grown in stature and popularity largely thanks to the input of Hyundai and their sponsorship,” said Funani.
All the children will be fed.
