A United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean on Friday put some cheer to inmates at the Gweru Jairos Jiri Centre by donating goods worth $1 million and $1 million in cash.
Among the donated goods were blankets, toiletries, soaps and detergents.
Ameerh Naran told H-Metro that he inherited the baton of generosity from his father Prag Naran, which been passed on to him by his late grandfather, Lalloo Naran, in 1966.
“Zimbabwe is my home, and I feel blessed in upholding our traditional family legacy, that of helping the needy,” said Naran.
“My grandfather Lalloo started this in the 60s and my father carried it on and I will not during my life time,” said Naran.
Accepting the donation, Gweru Jairos Jiri Centre resource mobilisation executive, Grace Kamanga, thanked Naran for upholding his grandfather’s philanthropy.
“It is pleasing to see people like Naran who always remember his home, history and upholding the legacy left by his grandfather,” said Kamanga.
“The generosity of helping the aged, blind, deaf and dumb people was in the veins of his late grandfather.
“His father took over and he is rekindling the flame by meeting the needs of the less privileged.
“We continue to thank such people and other captains of industry and corporates for sowing their seeds on fertile soil,” she said.
