A SOCIAL science student at Women’s University in Africa doubling as a musician has released a song denouncing gender based violence (GBV) in society and calling for support systems for survivors.
Inspired by his studies, Stanley Chigweshe, known by the moniker Guru Tactician says GBV is a subject which should be talked about on a daily basis the same as how authorities do when fighting pandemics such as Covid-19 and HIV/AIDS.
He said the scourge has become rampant that some now normalise it and not speaking out yet they are impacted negatively.
“GBV is a real problem in society and we need to be speaking out about it. The noise that we make when there is a pandemic is the same we should be putting on the vice. People are suffering and some are not even speaking out hence the need for continued talk about it.
“I believe music is a way through which a message can reach the masses and having it on a dancehall tip I believe it can reach the younger generation,” he said.
The youthful musician got on to the music scene as a gospel music singer and he has now dabbled into dancehall.
He has also recorded two other songs Nzira and Sarura Wako which were produced at Mt Zion Studios which are accompanying the song GBV.
He said this does not mean ditching the gospel but expanding his audience.
“God have me the talent and I believe he did not mean that I should confine myself to a particular genre. I believe this shows my versatility.
“I still do gospel music and the song GBV was recorded by Lyton Ngolomi, a well-known gospel music producer,” he said.
