Addressing the mourners on behalf of The Herald, news editor Hebert Zharare described Bright as a dedicated employee.
“Bright Madera was obedient and was always committed to his work,” he said.
“As an individual, I have lost a friend and as a company we have lost a key employee.”
Family spokesperson Mr John Makunura thanked the assistance rendered by the media community during bereavement.
“The burial went on very well and as a family we are grateful to the contribution by his colleagues at work that are present here,” he said.
“Bright’s death was a major loss, not just to the family, but to the media community as well.”
Herald acting business editor Fanuel Kangondo said Madera’s death had left an indelible mark on the paper.
“This is a major loss for us as a newspaper, in particular for the business section because his contribution is irreplaceable,” he said.
Bloomberg reporter Godfrey Maravanyika said Bright’s death affected the Zimbabwean media fraternity.
“We have lost one of the best business reporters of our generation,” he said.
Daily News group editor Stanley Gama said in his condolence message that the agony of Bright’s death was shared by all journalists.
He said although he did not know Bright personally, he had heard of the good things about him.
“From what I hear, he was a fantastic journalist who was down to earth and respected colleagues from different media houses,” said Gama.
“The Daily News expresses heartfelt condolences to Madera’s wife and children, the Madera family, Zimpapers and the entire media fraternity during this very difficult time.
“Their grief is shared by all of us at the Daily News.
“As a fraternity, we have lost a fine journalist.
“May his dear soul rest in eternal peace,” he said.
Madera drowned in a swimming pool at Carribea Bay Hotel in Kariba on Friday last week.
He is survived by his wife Rumbi and twin daughters — Nomufaro and Noku-tenda.
